A factory license in Maharashtra is not just a compliance document. It is a legal protection to ensure that your factory is safe and meets the health and safety needs of your employees. In Maharashtra, getting a factory license is mandatory if your premises qualify as a "factory" under the Factories Act, 1948.
A factory license isn't just a regulatory requirement—it's your business's foundation for credible, sustainable operations in India's financial capital. You'll need this license when your operation:
Examples of businesses that commonly require a Factory License in Maharashtra:
If you are the occupier of a factory—whether the owner, a partner, a director, or an officer—that factory license is your responsibility, regardless of whether you are the owner or a lessee of the premises.
Maharashtra has countless successful manufacturing units, including factories for pharmaceuticals, chemicals and textiles, food processing, waste recycling, metal fabrication, and automobile components. These manufacturing units know that when they take the time to get licensed, they are showing their commitment to building a compliant and credible business that can grow and succeed for the long-term. Don’t keep your business operating on an informal basis. Get licensed and prove your worth to the market.
The factory license has to be applied for by the occupier of the factory—most often the owner, partner, director, or another representative who has been authorized to manage the factory, regardless of whether the premises are owned or leased.
Tell us your business location, worker count, and connected load to check your registration eligibility.
The following documents are mandatory for online registration of your factory license. Submitting incomplete or incorrect documents can result in rejections from the Maharashtra Department of Labor, which significantly delays your approval.
